Right to freedom from torture and ill-treatment

According to international law, everyone has the right to freedom from “any act by which severe pain or suffering, whether physical or mental, is intentionally inflicted on a person”. This includes torture or ill-treatment committed for any purpose, including (but not limited to) attempts to obtain information or confessions, punishment for suspected or committed acts, intimidation, coercion, and discrimination (CAT, Part 1, Article 1).

The short answer is that this sometimes happens when we convert our statistical calculations into scores from 0 to 10, and it doesn’t mean anything special.
